LINGAYEN–The Bolinao contingent has been presented the Hall of Fame award after winning the championship trophy in the Pangasinan I Division Olympic Games for consecutive years.
Athletes from the coastal town of Bolinao again toppled their competitors in almost all the sports events during this year’s four-day schools division Olympics, the 5th, held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) here from February 8 to 11.
Division I covers 22 towns, namely: Agno, Aguilar, Anda, Bani, Basista, Bayambang, Binmaley, Bolinao, Bugallon, Burgos, Calasiao, Dasol, Infanta, Labrador, Mabini, Malasiqui, Mangatarem, Mapandan, Sta. Barbara, Sual, Urbiztondo and Lingayen.
Other winners were Lingayen and Bani, which placed second and third, respectively, in the elementary division while Anda and Bani were 1st and 2nd runners-up in the secondary level.
Tito Caampued, an official of the Bolinao delegation, expressed confidence that their team hopes would maintain their top performance in the coming Ilocos Region Athletics Association (IRAA) meet on March 14 to 19.
Dr. Danilo Sison, assistant schools division superintendent, said the recent division “Olympic” games is held regularly in preparation for the IRAA competitions. This year’s IRAA will be held in NRSCC where Pangasinan’s teams hopes to advance to regional representation.
“Since our athletes are already familiar with the playing area, I think we will give Ilocos Norte, the reigning champion in the region, a good fight,” Sison said.
Gov. Amado Espino, Jr., who was represented by Vice-Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim, Jr. at the opening ceremony, assured the provincial government’s support to the athletes’ development. (PIO)
