Dagupan Athletic Meet opens
THE 2011 Dagupan City Division Athletic Meet opened February 2 at the Dagupan City National High School (DCNHS) with both public and private schools in the city participating in the annual sporting event.
Among the participants are contingents from Districts I to IV, private schools, East Central Integrated School, Federico N. Ceralde Integrated School, DCNHS Carael annex, DCNHS Salapingao annex, Judge Jose De Venecia Memorial National High School, Bonuan Boquig National High School, and DCNHS main.
The three-day meet carried the theme: “Play for your School, Win for the City”.
Mayor Benjamin Lim, in his speech during the opening ceremony, encouraged the athletes to value teamwork and learn from their mistakes, and to use these lessons from sports in other areas of their life.
“Itong sports meet natin ay isa lang sa aktibidad sa ating buhay. Ang panalo ng isang team ay nasa teamwork. Hindi puedeng kanya-kanya, kayo-kayo, at kami-kami,” he said.
Hinting on the political situation in the city, Lim continued, “Sa Dagupan City, hindi pa natin nakakamit ang teamwork. Malayo pa po. But this I have to assure you, there will come a time na makakamit din natin ito.”
“If we want to win, there has to be a plan, a strategy in order to win. If we fail, it is equally important to know the reason why we failed. Let’s learn from our mistakes,” he added.
