Another kapitan and wife shot
SAN NICOLAS–Another barangay chairman was shot and wounded here on the night of January 22, just two days after the kapitan of barangay Tokok in San Fabian town was shot and killed on January 20.
Chairman Moises Lagua, 49, of Barangay Nagkaysa suffered one gunshot wound in the stomach while his wife, Juliet, 47, was wounded on her hip.
The incident happened at about 8:10 p.m. in Barangay Nagkaysa following a heated altercation between Lagua and the suspect, Reynaldo Goltiao, 45, a retired Navyman.
Senior Inspector Roldan Suetos, chief of police of San Nicolas, said Laguia used a Caliber 45 pistol in shooting the couple inside their compound.
Investigation showed Lagua and Goltiao figured in a heated argument after the latter was accused of throwing a stone at a group of Born Again Christians having a prayer meeting in a chapel located in the kapitan’s compound.
Goltiao, who was reportedly drunk at that time, complained that his children could not sleep because of the noise coming from the chapel.
After the two were pacified, Goltiao went home and then returned to Lagua’s compound and shot Lagua in the stomach and then his wife when she tried to intervene.
The suspect escaped through a cornfield at the back of the barangay chairman’s compound.
Inspector Roberto Gulla, deputy chief of police of San Nicolas, said the Lagua couple has recovered from their wounds.
BUCAO’S CASE
Lagua was the second barangay chairman in the province to have been shot within less than a week after Barangay Chairman Arsenio Bucao, 49 of Tokok was assassinated by still unidentified suspects.
Liga ng mga Barangay Provincial Federation chairman Amadeo Espino, an ex-officio provincial board member, has called on authorities to solve Bucao’s murder and bring the perpetrators, including the mastermind, to justice.
The slaying of Bucao on the night of January 20 is now being investigated by a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) headed by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CITG) formed by Police Provincial Director Senior Superintendent Rosueto Ricaforte.—LM
