Undercover cop shot dead in buy-bust operation
LINGAYEN–An undercover policeman of San Carlos City was killed in a shootout with a suspected drug dealer during a failed buy-bust operation inside a van in San Carlos City at 8:00 p.m. of January 24.
SPO3 Joel Resuello died of a single gunshot wound in the chest.
The suspect, Joel Malicdem, also died on the spot as Resuello was able to draw his gun before dying and shot him in the head.
Resuello was posing as a drug buyer to ensnare Malicdem’s sources for the illegal drugs.
The police reported that before Malicdem could lead Resuello to the top drug dealer in San Carlos City, the latter’s identity as a policeman was uncovered, resulting in the gunfight.
Senior Superintendent Rosueto Ricaforte, police provincial director, confirmed that Resuello died in the line of duty in a buy-bust operation against members of a drug syndicate supplying illegal drugs in San Carlos City.
Resuello was the third policeman this year who died in the line of duty. The other two policemen were from Santa Maria and Urdaneta City.–LM
