A special education budget worth P12.3 million for the benefit of teachers has been approved by the Urdaneta City government.

The fund will cover honoraria for local school board teachers, in-house trainings of teachers, and the membership fees of teachers to the National Organization of Professional Teachers which provides insurance and training benefits, City Administrator Ronald San Juan told The PUNCH.

The city currently has 90 school board teachers and targets to have 100 by next school year which opens in June.

The special fund will also cover the purchase of sports equipment and costs of participation in the Ilocos Region Athletic Association (IRAA) Meet.

Other items under the budget include scouting, repair of the city schools division office, and repair of the perimeter fence of Camantiles National High School which is often flooded.

The titling of some school sites will also be covered, which involves transferring of lot titles under the Department of Education (DepEd).

The DepEd, which is supposed to shoulder this, has asked the Urdaneta local government for assistance due to lack of funds.
