LINGAYEN – Oplan Kaluluwa and Oplan Bantay Daan have placed some 2,000 policemen in Pangasinan on full alert starting Saturday anticipating thousands of people flocking to cemeteries and memorial parks across the province in observance of the All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day.

     Superintendent Noli Taliño, deputy police provincial director for operations and provincial intelligence officer, told The PUNCH he met all the police chiefs last week for the special operations aimed at ensuring public safety and smooth traffic flow, particularly along Mac Arthur Highway from the towns of Rosales, Villasis, Urdaneta City, Binalonan, Pozorrubio up to Sison going north.

     He said re-routing schemes in heavily congested areas have been adopted and starting today, traffic signage will be in place.

     Assistance centers for motorists will be set up along the sides of the highway, and public assistance booths at the cemeteries will be manned by policemen aided by volunteers from civic organizations.

     At the same time, police have been advised to continue and intensify their beat patrols to safeguard subdivisions and other residential houses when their residents head for the cemeteries on Nov. 1 and 2, Taliño added.

     Supervisors from the police provincial office will be fielded to oversee the implementation of this special operation, he said. – EVA
