UEP wins Urdaneta cage crown
A DETERMINED University of Eastern Pangasinan made an impressive run all the way to the championship series to win the 8th Metro Urdaneta Athletic Association Basketball League crown by beating Wellcare Institute of Science and Technology of Urdaneta City, 85-73, in the second game of the best-of-three finals last October 25 at the Urdaneta City Cultural and Sports Complex.
The UEP Patriots, after finishing second in their last three years of participation in the league, finally brought home the championship trophy.
Overcoming a tentative start in the opening quarter, the UEP Patriots of Mayor Ramon V. Guico III of Binalonan settled down at the halfway mark and grabbed the upper hand, 25-22.
At the start of the second period, Coach Renato “Jack” Vidal ordered a shackling man-to-man defense on Wellcare as the league’s Most Valuable Player Mark Joel Siador exploded with 11 points on three triples and a twinner, while team mate Sammy Biado contributed eight points, giving the team a comfortable lead at the half, 56-38.
The team never looked back from thereon.
