VMUF students get TESDA scholarship

ELEVEN students of the Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation (VMUF) in San Carlos City were awarded scholarships by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) during the launching of the “ladderized education” program in Pangasinan held recently at the Dagupan City Astrodome.

          The VMUF scholars are Emmanuel N. Andress of Dagupan City; Jefferson S. Baltazar, San Manuel; Ma. Cristina T. Estrada and Janna Richelle M. Tañang, Urdaneta City; Joeward F. Marcellano, Eurinico C. Ramos and Patrick G. Reyes, San Carlos City; Jeffrey P. Melican, Aguilar; Nezer S. Mendoza, Urbiztondo; Lou Janno S. Rafanan, Villasis; and Michael Neil DC. Tandingan, Mangaldan.

         VMUF and Lyceum-Northwestern University (LCU) are the only two higher education institutions in Pangasinan with ladderized education program. VMUF is headed by Dr. Ma. Lilia P. Juan while Lyceum is led by Dr. Gonzalo Duque.

  Also present during the launching program were Dagupan City Mayor Benjamin S. Lim and other city officials, TESDA Provincial Office officials and delegates from various colleges and universities in Pangasinan.

          TESDA said that for school year 2006-2007, ladderized education shall be implemented by authorized institutions in eight disciplines: (1) Agriculture; (2) Health; (3) Maritime; (4) Tourism; (5) Information Technology; (6) Engineering; (7) Criminology; and (8) Education.

          The VMUF is the only University in Region I offering ladderized course in Animal Health Technology and employs the program in the field of agriculture, while the LNU offers a hotel and restaurant management course. — NCC
