THE manhunt is on for the person who fired a shot into the air and which stray bullet killed a 17-year old boy during the New Year revelry.

The fatality was identified as Francisco Corpuz, 17, who was hit in the head while he and members of his family were outside their home in Rosales town watching the revelry in the street.

He was rushed by relatives to the Dr. Chan Hospital, also in Barangay Carmen West, Rosales, and died a few hours while being treated.

Meanwhile, in response to the appeal of the Pangasinan Police to residents who may have some information about the incident, 39-year old vendor Lito Ubaldo came forward to show a recovered a slug of unknown caliber at the wood ceiling of his house in Barangay Carmen West, Rosales, 15 meters away from where victim Corpuz was hit. Ubaldo surrendered the said slug to Rosales PNP and is now being submitted to PNP Crime Laboratory, Urdaneta City for ballistic examination.

Sinuman yong may information sa insidente lumapit lang sa ating kapulisan … we treat any report as confidential,” said Sr. Supt Geraldo Roxas, police community relations head.

Both slugs were sent to the Philippine National Police crime laboratory in Urdaneta City to determine the firearm’s caliber.

Roxas, speaking in a radio interview last week, said the stray bullet definitely did not come from the firearm of a policeman as nobody from the force fired a service firearm during the New Year celebration.

Lahat ng baril ay sinilyohan ng masking tape bago magbagong taon at napatunayang walang nagpaputok nang tiningnan namin,” he said.

Roxas also said Sr. Supt. Rosueto Ricaforte, police provincial director, has directed the police, particularly the Rosales town police chief, to intensify efforts for the manhunt for the suspect. (With update from Desiree Sanchez)
