OLONGAPO City youthful cyclist Rudy Roque proved to the Pangasinan riders that he’s now a rider to reckon with after conquering the 4TH Garcia Cup in a compelling fashion held on December 26 in Mangaldan, Pangasinan.

The 18 year-old upcoming Zambales pedal pusher staged a breakaway from the lead group of five riders after 40 minutes drafting with the pack, never giving up the pole position to the finish to pocket the P3,000 top prize.

Roque clocked the 45 kilometers flat circuit amateur race in one hour, 12 minutes and 38 seconds, ahead by 57 seconds of the four-man second field won by Manila rider John Gerald Mendoza in a mad-dash-finish sprint to bag the P2,000 second prize.

Mangaldan promising amateur road player 17 year-old Joshua Carino came in a close third to earn P1,000 while Rene Esteban of San Fabian and Juancho Callorina of San Manuel, Pangasinan landed fourth and fifth, good for P750 and P500, respectively.

Rounding up the top ten were Melchor Ferrer of San Manuel, Rustom Lim of Guimba, Oliver Espiritu of San Manuel, Ricky Zabala of Laoac and Mon Nicolas of San Manuel.
