Espino: Let’s set politics aside
LINGAYEN–A week after the embarrassing break in protocol during the President’s visit to the province due to political party differences, Governor Amado Espino Jr. called on local government unit (LGU) officials to “set aside politics” in the pursuit of development programs for the province.
Espino was speaking during the LGU Night held December 15 at the Capitol Plaza here where some 40 mayors were in attendance.
During his speech, Espino reiterated his 10-point agenda for the province, the programs for which, he said, should be prioritized based on the needs of beneficiaries and not on “politics”.
At the same time, Espino stressed the importance of “command structure” as one vital component for a better linkage between the provincial government and LGUs to ensure the success of the development thrust that he launched since his first term in 2007.
Among the major programs that require support from the LGUs include peace and order, health care, agriculture, and tourism.
Peace and order, he said, must be the number one priority of the province to ensure the safety of all Pangasinenses to be able to pursue development.
On health care, Espino said the provincial government is ready to help enroll all the poorest of the poor constituents in PhilHealth.
The agricultural sector, meanwhile, must be given utmost attention given that the province is mainly an agricultural area.
In tourism, Espino urged all local officials to encourage their constituents to clean the environment and plant more trees. Simple things such as these he said, makes for an excellent tourism strategy.
