SOME 237 kilos of suspected “double dead” or “hot meat” were seized by the Dagupan City Veterinary office headed by City Veterinarian OIC Michael Maramba while conducting regular inspections of marketplaces at around 1:30 a.m. last Friday.

The heap of chopped double dead meat was found under the table of meat vendor Tin-Tin Edgar who owns a stall in Centromart.

Maramba said the meat inspectors were not able to find innards that could have helped them determined the true state of the hogs before these were slaughtered.

The confiscated double dead meat products were later burned and then buried by the waste management division at the dumpsite.

Meanwhile, Maramba warned consumers to be cautious about hotmeat as this could result in food poisoning even after cooking or processing.

“Even if the meat is processed, the quality of meat is still compromised and should not be consumed,” Maramba said.

Kung pipili ng karne, busisihin ang quality, hanapin ang meat inspection certificates o tatak ng pagkasuri or meat brands para makasiguro sa karne na mabibili,” he added/

Following the incident, Maramba underscored the need for Dagupan to have its own slaughterhouse to minimize the risk of hotmeat entering the city markets. (CIO)
