LINGAYEN–The benefits of the PhilHealth insurance card have reached thousands of Pangasinenses who are sick and poor, providing them relief in times of need and illness.

This was the gist of the testimonies given by Saturnino “Mama Satur” Velasquez, a resident of Barangay Salay in Mangaldan and Cecilio Monsada, personal secretary of Mayor Herminigildo Romero as they narrated their personal experiences before a crowd during the distribution of PhilHealth cards last October 18 at the Mangaldan Central Elementary School.

Mama Satur said his hospital bill of P10,000 at the Region 1 Medical Center was fully covered by the “small card”.

Monsada, on the other hand, narrated that he only paid P400 for his wife’s hospital bill after she gave birth via caesarian delivery using his health insurance card.

Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. and Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr. along with Board Member Jeremy Agerico Rosario personally handed the health cards to some 1,148 beneficiaries from 30 barangays in Mangaldan while a total of 931 were distributed to less fortunate Pangasinenses from the 26 barangays of Manaoag in a separate event.

Espino urged all beneficiaries to patronize all provincial government-owned hospitals, including the six districts, seven communities, and one provincial located in San Carlos City.

The governor said the present administration has endeavored to improve and enhance all facilities and services of the government owned hospitals to ensure that the sick Pangasinenses will be properly treated.

Espino also cited that for the past four years, Pangasinan has the most number of sponsored PhilHealth cards for indigent families all over the country.

Meanwhile, Calimlim said the present administration has set its sight on further enhancing its hospital development program as well as the other programs and projects for the benefit of the 2.7 million Pangasinenses.

Board Member Rosario, chairman of the committee on health, likewise bared that the PhilHealth card insurance distribution and renewal has been continuously growing since 2007 being one of the priority thrusts of the present administration.

Rosario said that for this reason as well as other health related goals, the province has become a constant recipient of various awards and citations for years now.

Mangaldan Mayor Herminigildo Romero and Manaoag Mayor Napoleon Sales thanked the governor for the support that he is giving their towns in the form of different projects.

“Pangasinan has become one of the most progressive places in the Philippines under the present administration,” Romero said as he added that both the governor and the vice governor have been very supportive to Mangaldan.

Sales on the other hand, said Espino is the symbol of giving genuine love to the people of Pangasinan. “Love begets love,” he said. (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
