ASINGAN–The repatriation of the remains of three Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) who died in Dubai last week when their apartment caught fire two weeks ago is now being expedited.

According to Board Member Ranjit Shahani, Philippine Consul General Benito Valeriano in Dubai Wednesday had assured him of the consular office’s efforts for the speedy return of the remains of Ariel Soberano and Erlyn Luna, both of Barangay Sobol here as well as Criselyn Sagum of Barangay Bacag, Villasis.

A survivor during the fire, Reynald Luna, a relative of Erlyn, also of Barangay Subol, remains in a hospital in Dubai.

Valeriano said Reynald’s condition is now improving.

All four were staying in what was reported to be an illegally constructed building, and so the remains of the three fatalities were temporarily held by Dubai authorities pending investigation.

Sagum was found to be an undocumented worker, thus the return of her remains will take longer as the authorities in Dubai are still investigating how she was able to enter their country.

The consul general is now coordinating with the Office of Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Manila for the documents of Soberano and Luna.

The relatives of Soberano and the two Lunas, as well as their barangay officials, appealed for help from Shahani to hasten the return of their dead relatives home.–LM
