LINGAYEN–Some 250 media practitioners from Regions I, II, III and the Cordilleras will converge at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Cultural Center here on November 26-28 for the 1st North-Central Luzon Media Summit.

The event is an initiative of the newly-reactivated Federation of Provincial Press Clubs of the Philippines (FPPCP), in cooperation with the provincial government of Pangasinan.

Secretary Herminio Coloma of the Presidential Communications Operations Office has been invited to address the participants of the summit, which will have the theme: “Link Up the Millennium Development Goals”.

Coloma is expected to outline the Aquino administration’s communications program through the so-called “feedback mechanism” system designed to bring the national government closer to the people.

H’Rayfel “Bobot” Caracas, FPPCP deputy director-general and event chairman, said the summit seeks to rally the country’s various community press organizations to support the transformational governance of President Benigno Aguino III.

Also invited as speakers are Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile; Pangasinan Gov. Amado Espino, Jr.; Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos; Juan Dayang, FPPCP chairman-emeritus and Publishers Association of the Philippines (PAPI) president; Antonio Villar Jr., chairman of the Dangerous Drugs Board; Roberto Amores, president of Philippine Exporters, Inc. and Board Member Alfonso Bince Jr.

AWARD FOR PUNCH FOUNDER

FPPCP president Allan Sison said the organization will also present an award to the late Ermin Garcia, Sr., FPPCP founding president, under whose leadership the community press gained prestige and respect in journalism practice.

For his daring exposes on crime syndicates and corruption in government offices, Garcia was gunned down inside his editorial office after closing the pages of The Sunday Punch issue for that week.

Some media leaders in Mindanao and Visayas are also expected to attend the summit.
