Espino lauds women’s role in nation-building
LINGAYEN–Governor Amado Espino Jr. paid tribute to the country’s women for their “irreplaceable and the unique, highly specialized skills” they contribute to their respective communities
Keynoting the 8th General Assembly of the Philippine Federation of Local Councils of Women, Inc. (PFLCW) held November 10 to 12 at the President’s Hotel here, the governor cited the special role of women in the area of development, saying “women are God’s special gifts to men” and strong allies in achieving goals towards progress.
“The time, effort and care given by a mother and a wife at home and her excellent skills in her workplace is laudable,” said Espino, adding that it is but fitting to repay them through the implementation of various “pro-women” programs.
He cited how the provincial government has prioritized programs geared to uplift the conditions of women, specifically those in the rural areas.
He said the provincial government has been sustaining its livelihood program, which has so far served at least 2,954 women’s group with P16 million worth of livelihood loan assistance over the last three years.
The governor reported that one of the priorities of his administration is to provide adequate and competent medical care to all women, especially pregnant women, through the establishments of maternal and neo-natal units in all the government owned hospitals in the province.
“The need for all local government units to establish their own local centers for women envisioned to look over their welfare and provide them with a sense of belonging and a place where they can be safe must also be established,” he stressed.
The three-day general assembly gathered more than 300 women leaders nationwide, including incumbent political leaders with an objective to facilitate, strengthen and institutionalize the partnership of government and non-government organization towards the implementation of gender-responsive economic programs, projects and activities at the local level.
