THE Dagupan City government is giving emergency employment to some 50 identified beneficiaries affected by the on- going river clean-up in the city’s main rivers.

City Administrator Vladimir Mata said the city government has secured funds from the Department of Labor and Employment to pay for the emergency employment scheme, which will initially be set up for a one-month period.

“This is just our initial plan because the city will be coming up with other livelihood programs for other beneficiaries.  This is our first response to the on-going demolition of fish pens and other illegal structures in the rivers,” Mata said.

A program of work is now being prepared by the city for who will be paid P240 a day for 30 days.

Meanwhile, city agriculturist Emma Molina said only 80 units of fish pen and other illegal structures are now left for demolition and all of these are expected to be gone by the end of the month.
