THE Dagupan City rolled out the red carpet to welcome the project PROMISE coordinators from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Vietnam, and Bangladesh who arrived last Thursday to observe the implementation of Project PROMISE here.

The visitors were led by Project Promise (short for Program for Hydro-Meteorological Disaster Mitigation in Secondary Cities in Asia) coordinators Mr. B.M.M Mozharul Huq (Bangladesh), Massod Mahesar (Pakistan), Doung Thi Hoai Trang (Vietnam) and Mayfourth Luneta for Philippine..

They were joined by representatives from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) headed by . Robert Barton, Regional Advisor for Asia-Pacific Office of United States Foreign Disaster Assistance, (OFDA).

Barton gave the city an acceptable rating in its implementation of Project PROMISE, and advised the city to continue pursuing its plans and programs on disaster preparedness because disasters can happen anytime.

Mayor Benjamin Lim told the visitors that prior to their visit, he, City Agriculturist Emma Molina and others PROMISE volunteers attended seminars in Manila on disaster preparedness to better prepare them for the project.

Lim said the city shared its experience on disaster and its plans and programs to avert calamities, like the 1990 earthquake that nearly wiped out Dagupan from the map.

The delegations visited the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources touring the eight pilot barangays, namely Lasip Chico, Lasip Grande, Bacayao Sur, Bacayao Norte, Salisay, Mangin, Tebeng, and Pogo Grande.

The eight barangays presented their own plans and programs on the implementation of project PROMISE, stressing on what they have done so far for the project.
