2nd Food-for-Work program set in Alaminos City
ALAMINOS CITY–The second round of the Food for Work Program (WFP) funded by United Nations World Food Program is set to be launched here shortly.
This was assured by Romelita Idia, field monitor assistant of the UN Food Program-Region 1 when she called on Mayor Hernani Braganza last Wednesday.
The UN-WFP with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), implemented the FFW program in Alaminos City in June this year to help families affected by the fury of Typhoon “Emong” last year.
FFW is a program where victims of calamities and the poorest households are tapped to work in community rehabilitation and reconstruction and in other public works projects and receive a set kilos of rice instead of cash for their efforts.
The first round of the program was successfully implemented in Alaminos City through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
Braganza said the initial program enabled indigents and typhoon victims a chance to rebuild their homes and other infrastructures in their villages through their own sweat.
The city government received a total of 3,048 sacks of rice last June for distribution.
Braganza said part of it was used for projects, like the implementation of values re-orientation and the installation of the fish-aggregating device called “payao” in the coastal village of Victoria.
Rice assistance was also given to victims of Typhoon “Emong” that battered Alaminos last year but who did not receive cash assistance nor galvanized iron sheets for their roofing from the DSWD.
Other projects implemented with help from FFW were the establishment of Material Recovery Facilities, the conduct of “Iwas Dengue” Clean-up drive, vegetable gardening and clean up of canals and roads and de-clogging of creek and rivers.
Idia assured that other towns in western Pangasinan are also likely beneficiaries of the FFW program late this year.
