LINGAYEN–Young would be journalists from the West Central School in San Nicolas had a taste of real provincial coverage. They “ambused” the governor himself for an interview.

Gov. Amado Espino Jr. was not exactly the evasive subject as it was he who extended the invitation to the student writers of  “Ang Kanluran”, the school organ, for an opportunity to be “ambushed” as part of his administration’s efforts to promote the provincial government’s environmental protection programs.

When asked about the projects of the provincial government, Espino said protecting the environment is one of the priority projects of his administration, citing the various activities that are ongoing.

Naglilinis kami ng mga ilog at tinataniman namin ang mga bundok upang makaiwas tayo sa masasamang epekto ng kalamidad gaya ng matinding pagbaha,” Espino told the children.

The governor also asked the school children to help spread the word on how they can help protect the environment, i.e., keeping their school premises clean and reminding elders to stop throwing garbage in the rivers.

The “Ang Kanluran”, with its English edition titled “Western VLISS”, is circulated not only in the province but also nationwide.

Venus Ancheta, school paper adviser, said “Ang Kanluran” has been a regional qualifier in the regional press conference three times.

Three of the paper’s writers also have qualified for the regional level press conference after winning in the division and provincial level writing competitions.
