Prices stable despite Typhoon ‘Juan’

THE prices of basic commodities in Pangasinan remain stable despite the onslaught of typhoon Juan that destroyed up to P2 billion worth of both public and private properties.

Marjorie Loresco of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reported that based on their monitoring after the typhoon, the prices of basic commodities, especially manufactured goods, have not increased.

She said the business establishments in Dagupan, mostly owned by officers and members of the Pangasinan Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, are all complying with the suggested retail price of goods.

In some cases, the prevailing prices of goods in Dagupan are even lower than the suggested price, Loresco said during the KBP forum on Thursday.

Loresco cited one tin can of milk with a suggested retail price of P11, which retailers sell at P10.50.

She noted that consumers from different parts of Pangasinan are coming to buy their goods in Dagupan where the prices are lower than in other areas.

“This is the reason why business establishments are booming in this city,” Loresco said, adding that retailers in other towns also prefer to buy their stock from the wholesalers in Dagupan.
