NURSING BOARD EXAMS IMPASSE

The flip-flopping of President Arroyo on the fate of the examinees that passed the 2006 government examinations earned a rebuke from the successful examinees’ topnotcher.

Gringo Sandiego, a graduate of University of Pangasinan who placed “Pabago-bago ang desisyon ni Presidente parang pinaasa lang niya kami,” he complained even as he conceded he has no  other choice now but to retake the exam.

He recalled President Arroyo’s earlier popular decision to support the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) order for a “no-retake” and to allow the pending cases to be resolved by the Court of Appeals, only to reverse herself for another reason.

Sandiego said he and the other examinees have been awaiting the decision of the Court of Appeals on their pending oath-taking.

“Nakakainsulto ang ginagagawa nila (What they do is insulting),” Sandiego said. He added that the President should respect the decision of the PRC and avoid changing her decision lest she loses her credibility.

“She should be firm with her decision,” Sandiego said.

“Why punish the innocent examinees? It should be the masterminds behind the leakage who should be punished,” Sandiego said.

He said he can’t do anything now but to retake the exams and will again simply do his best but added the new results may no longer make him number one.

While awaiting the resolution of the controversy and his eventual oath taking, Sandiego was busy helping tend to family-owned backyard piggery.

Meanwhile, Dr. Gonzalo Duque, president of   Lyceum Northwestern University  based here that produced  three other topnotchers (two eighth placers and one ninth placer) in the recent Nursing exams, said he welcomes the retake move  but with certain reservations.

Duque, first vice president of the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities, pointed out   initially that a pending case in court regarding the leakage could still preempt the President’s order for a retake. — EVA
