THE Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce Inc. (FFCCI) and the Pangasinan Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PFCC) have donated two new school buildings for two public schools in Dagupan City.

The school buildings, with two classrooms each, were built for the Dagupan City National High School (DCNHS) and the Bacayao Sur Elementary School.

The rooms were sponsored by the Tai Lian couple, owners of BesTank, in response to a request to the FFCCI made by Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez and members of the previous Sangguniang Panlungsod.

The PFCCI, represented by Provincial Board Member Danilo Uy as president, Edison Soriano as past president, and Juanito Cuason as regional executive director, endorsed the request.

Two other school buildings were built earlier at the Salapingao Elementary School and the Carael National High School through a similar initiative.

The Tai Lian couple was recently thanked in a ceremony by the FFCCI.

Representing the benefactors, Fernando Co, vice chairman of the FFCCCI welfare committee, said the school buildings were among the 4,000 or 8,000 classrooms they had so far donated throughout the country over the years.

Many of donated school buildings were built in public schools in rural areas to help improve education, particularly in the countryside.

“With good education, people can abolish their poverty,” Co said.

For her part, the vice mayor said she pushed for these donations after seeing pupils of the Salapingao Elementary School holding classes in a gymnasium stage while those in Carael National High School were at an even worse situation having to conduct classes under a mango tree.

The city council recently passed another two resolutions requesting more school buildings for other schools in Dagupan.–LM
