Decano back from U.S. confab

Dagupan City Councilor Farah Decano was recently in the United States on the invitation of the US Government to participate in its International Leader Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) on Governance; The Federal Approach.

The three-week program was held from August l4, 2006 in Washington DC and ended on September 1, 2006 in Seattle, Washington State.

The only female and only representative from the Philippine local legislature, Councilor Decano was joined by three other delegates namely, Mayor Randolf Ting of Tuguegarao City, Mayor Lawrence Cruz of Iligan City and Sulo Provincial Administrator Don Mustpha Loong.

Participants to the program were selected by invitation only from the U.S government. The fare, accommodation and other expenses were shouldered by the states.

The first leg of the program was highlighted by discussions and visits toseveral states that included Boston New Orleans, and St. Louis.

At the culminating activity last September 1, the IVLP delegates from other countries focusing on different areas of study converged to meet each other and shared their various experiences. Councilor Decano designated spokesperson for the Philippine delegation, spoke extemporaneously on governance.

Decano arrived last September 12, 2006 and will submit her report and recommendation to the council next month.
