BARANGAY chairmen in Dagupan were briefed by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) on the city’s quake damage assessment tool project last October 2.

The kapitans were oriented on the use of the Rapid Earthquake Damage Assessment Software (REDAS) and the survey that the city government is currently undertaking to gather information that will be used as input to the tool.

The REDAS, developed by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, simulates the localized damages that could be brought about by an earthquake.

This information will help in determining the specific preparation and mitigation efforts per barangay.

It was stressed to the village heads the need to carry out such projects as the city is always at risk of being hit by different disasters due to its topography and geography.

The REDAS team, with the help of village volunteer surveyors, has so far finished tracking seven villages and is now gearing up for surveying the other barangays.

The next batch of barangays to be covered by the data collection has been tasked to screen their own surveyors. (CIO)
