Braganza lauds P-Noy’s anti-jueteng stance

MAYOR Hernani Braganza of Alaminos City, where jueteng has stopped since six years ago, has given a thumbs-up to President Benigno Aquino III’s order to the new Interior and Local Government secretary to end the illegal numbers game in the country.

“The President is determined to end the menace once and for all,” Branganza said.

The Krusadang Bayan Laban sa Jueteng of Archbishop Emeritus Oscar Cruz previously confirmed Alaminos, as well as the towns of Bani, Burgos and Sison, to be the only local government units in Pangasinan that are jueteng-free.

Jueteng makes the poor even poorer and the unscrupulous politicians and those who receive protection money, instant millionaires,” Braganza said.

Braganza also refuted claims of politicians that jueteng payola greatly helps them provide for the needs of the constituents.

“That is pure baloney. In my city, many petty crimes, like stealing and quarrels among families, have gone down considerably and people are now focused on doing their livelihood which has become easier, after I stopped jueteng,” he said.

He added jueteng only promotes patronage politics.

Braganza pointed out that aside from degrading society’s moral fiber, jueteng is an additional burden to the poor, because “they even stake the meager money that they have which is supposed to feed them and their children.”

On Monday P-Noy declared strong opposition to jueteng.
