UL holds fire drill
AS more than 3,000 students and officials of University of Luzon watched, Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) rescue unit volunteers rappelled down from the fifth story of the library building, put up ladders and performed a simulated rescue from a non-toxic smoke-filled building.
The demonstrations were part of the building fire scenario rescue operation held July 16 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the July 16, 1990 earthquake.
University of Luzon president Dr. Macarthur Samson Sr. praised the hard work of the 70 complimentary rescue team members from the PDCC headed by Col. Paterno Orduna.
Samson said the simulation drill was needed to remind everyone of the need to be alert.
“The school population needs to know and understand the standard procedures and actions to take in an event of an emergency,” he said.
