Pangasinan now insurgency- free

LINGAYEN–Pangasinan is now an insurgency-free province.

This was reported by P/Sr. Supt. Percival Barba, provincial police director, and Philippine Army Brigade Commander Leonido Bongcawil during the presentation of Internal Security Operations to Gov. Amado Espino Jr. and the Joint Declaration of Insurgency Free Province held last week.

The briefing was aimed at determining the peace and order situation in the province, focusing on insurgency covering the period from 2006 to the present.

Espino, chair of the Provincial Peace and Order Council, has put peace and order as one of his administration’s priority thrusts.

The provincial government has maintained close coordination with the provincial command of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) contingents within the province to ensure the safety of residents as well as visitors.

Pangasinan used to be considered as the “shirking area” where communist terrorists (CTs) seek temporary refuge whenever massive combat operations are being undertaken by military forces in neighboring provinces.

The situation has since improved through the concerted efforts of the local government units  (LGUs), PNP and AFP, Barangay Tanods, Barangay Police Auxilliary Teams (BPATS) and CAFGU Active Auxilliaries (CAAs).

The province has 16 CAA Patrol bases to form part of the local Integrated Area/Community Public Safety System (IA/CPSS) with a total of 486 CAA personnel.
