RE-ELECTED Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, along with eight city councilors who belong to the majority vowed to support the new city leadership under Mayor Benjamin Lim.

Fernandez said their participation in Lim’s inaugural and oath-taking on June 30 is a manifestation that they are ready to work with him.

Basta yong kanyang mga good projects, I’m sure ako at lahat ng mga councilors will be there to support him, just as we did with the past administration of Mayor Al,” she said.

Fernandez and the eight councilors already took their oath of office on June 29 in the last session of the outgoing Sangguniang Panlungsod before outgoing Mayor Alipio Fernandez, who delivered his valedictory address during the occasion.

The two other councilors who complete the SP, Marc Brian Lim and  Redford Mejia, took their oath with partymate Lim.

Local political observers initially speculated that Fernandez and the eight councilors would not attend Lim’s inauguration due to perceived irreconcilable political and business differences.

The eight councilors aligned with the vice mayor are Maybelyn Rose De la Cruz Fernandez, Jesus Canto, Karlos Liberato Reyna, Ma. Librada Fe Reyna, Jeslito Seen, Alipio Serafin Fernandez, Luis Samson Jr. and Alvin Coquia.

Fernandez did admit that she and Lim did not have a chance to talk during the inauguration as Lim was busy browsing through his speech before the start of the event.

She expressed hope that the new administration will be able to solve the nagging problem of garbage management in the city and give priority to nutrition, education and other basic services.

Immediately after their oath-taking, Fernandez met with the city councilors for a discussion on the council’s agenda for its first regular session on July 5.—LM
