LINGAYEN–The provincial government, through the Pangasinan Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Office (PHUDCO) in partnership with Habitat for Humanity-Philippines, will distribute this week “Food-for-Work” packed items to 851 families affected by the big flood caused by typhoon “Pepeng” last year.

The beneficiaries, who have previously received shelter repair kits, came from the towns of Bayambang, Bautista, Sison, Villasis, Rosales, Lingayen and Urdaneta City.

Engr. Alvin Bigay, provincial housing and homesite regulation officer, said that the food packs will help the affected families augment their daily need.

Meanwhile, the provincial government is also drawing plans for its housing program to help those affected by recent calamities as well as the homeless and underprivileged.

Bigay said they are now looking into socialized and low-cost housing for the low-income earners and relocation sites for displaced families.

Last June 30, Bigay assisted former Mayor Alejandrea Supnet in the groundbreaking of a proposed resettlement project at Barangay Poblacion West in Natividad town.

The project, which will cover a 1.5-hectare area, will house some 70 displaced families in the municipality.
