Verzosa son dives into local politics
DASOL—It will be a neophyte versus a veteran in the mayoralty race here in the May 2013 election.
Eric Verzosa, son of retired police director general Jesus Verzosa, has announced he is running for mayor in this coastal town under the ruling Liberal Party (LP).
He will be facing incumbent Mayor Noel Nacar, who is on his first term and is expected to run for re-election, of LKS-KAM party and currently president of the Pangasinan Mayors League.
The 29-year old and single Verzosa operates a divers’ resort in Bohol, manages their family’s security agency, and is involved in the farming of their ancestral land here.
Verzosa said while he is new in politics, he had been exposed to having tagged along with his father often during his stint as chief of the Philippine National Police.
The position in the LP slate was offered to the young Verzosa by their long-time family friend, Serge Jimenez, a former mayor here who will be his running mate as vice mayor, and former mayor Luding Espinosa of this town after it was turned down by the elder Verzosa.
The young Verzosa, who was initially planning on going into politics in 2016, said, “I believe that now is the perfect time for me to effect change for the people.”–Eva Visperas
