SAN CARLOS CITY–The South Korean government has expressed willingness to lend Pangasinan as much as US$50 million for the construction of a modern medical center in the province.

Governor Amado Espino Jr. made the announcement in an interview when he celebrated his birthday last June 20 by visiting patients of the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital.

Espino said members of the Korean Parliament, along with some contractors, are now in Pangasinan to discuss the loan and the physical plan of the medical center.

Being eyed as location of the medical center is the provincial nursery here where a P200 million Rice Processing Complex financed by a grant from the Korean government is now under construction.

Espino, keen on getting the financing, said he may ask the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) to endorse the project since the loan needs a guarantee from the Philippine government.

Earlier, a Korean company has expressed intent to build a retirement village either in Mangatarem or at the planned eco-tourism zone of the province in Lingayen.

Another Korean firm is eyeing to put up a factory for electric cars for export.

While at the PPH, Espino was honored by policemen led by Senior Superintendent Percival Barba, provincial director, by donating their blood to the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC).

PNRC Administrator Floramae Magalong said the blood donation will significantly boost the PNRC blood bank.—LM
