PNP brass mum on motorcycle cop’s death
A motorcycle cop died while undergoing training but his death was not recorded in the police blotter.
Adding to the mystery surrounding his death, everyone in the police force particularly the officers who directed the training and Pangasinan police officers was mum about it.
SPO4 Rodel Callope of TMG region 2, reportedly died after he fell from his motorcycle after failing to perform a high jump during the Motorcycle Training Course held in Bonuan Binloc here last August 24 participated in by 75 motorcycle-riding cops from the Traffic Management Group (TMG) from regions 1, 2, 3 and Cordillera Administrative Region.
Callope of Solana, Cagayan Valley and due to retire from the service in two years, was rushed to Villaflor Hospital here after he suffered a broken neck. Sources who asked not to be identified said Callope lost his balance while attempting to negotiate an eight feet high ride on his motorcycle and fell with his head first hitting the ground. His motorcycle fell on him, too.
The incident led to the immediate cancellation of the two-day training course which was in preparation for the ASEAN summit later this year where the riders would be tapped to assist.
Local media failed to find a report on the incident in the city police blotter and no TMG official could be reached for comment. Another source who requested anonymity said three other trainees were injured during the training.
Police Senior Supt. Alan Purisima, provincial director, and Senior Inspector Jose Manubay, chief of TMG in Pangasinan refused to comment on the incident and referred media to TMG officials for details.
Manubay said it should be officers of TMG-Region 2 that should explain since the training was their project. – EVA
