PSU expands with more course options

PANGASINAN State University (PSU) is expanding its operations with the introduction of new courses, including law and medicine.

Dr. Victoriano Estira, PSU president, announced that the college of law will be opened at the PSU Lingayen campus by the second semester.

The soon-to-open Alaminos City campus will house the college of medicine in a P10-million building funded by the city government. The campus is adjacent to the 300-bed hospital, which the city government is also putting up.

Meanwhile, Estira said PSU’s newly established nursing school has been successfully churning out board passers from among its nursing graduates.

The nursing school is doing well despite the fact that it is not supported by the government, he added.

“It is a self-sustaining and self-regulating undertaking … no money from the government. Operations of the school are purely funded by tuition fees” he said.

Estira said PSU’s other schools are likewise performing well such as the engineering and architecture schools based at the PSU campus in Urdaneta City and the teacher education facility in Bayambang.

From 9,000 enrollees three years ago, the number has increased to 15,000 in the last school year and is expected to go up to 18,000 this year.

Estira attributes the increase in enrollment rate to the subsidized tuition fees and the open admission policy adopted by the institution.
