CHEd renews LNU’s deregulated status

LYCEUM Northwestern University’s (LNU) “deregulated status” has been renewed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for the institution’s continuing exemplary performance in instruction, research and public service.

In presenting the Award of Distinction to LNU president Gonzalo Duque last May 14, CHEd chairman Emmanuel Angeles also cited the outstanding performance of LNU graduates, which, he said, “manifests its genuine commitment to quality, excellence and global competitiveness.”

LNU’s deregulated status, the first university in Region 1 to hold such status, will be in effect until May 12, 2013.

As a deregulated educational institution, LNU will be given priority in the grant of subsidies and other financial incentives assistance from CHEd as well as hold the privilege to determine and prescribe its curricular programs.

Aside from granting deregulated status, CHEd also identified LNU as Center for Development in Pharmacy Education in the next three years following its performance of an 80 percent percentage passing rate in the Pharmacy licensure examinations in the last five years.

Duque said the recognition that LNU received is a proof of its commitment to provide quality but low-cost higher education to students in Pangasinan and nearby provinces.
