BETTER THINGS TO HAPPEN

GOVERNOR Amado Espino, Jr. gets a second term in office after winning his re-election bid by more than half a million votes over his opponent, Second District Congressman Victor Agbayani.

Shortly after his proclamation, Espino said he is extremely humbled by the overwhelming fresh mandate the people bestowed on him and his running-mate for vice governor, Mapandan Mayor Ferdinand Calimlim.

Espino cruised to an easy victory over Agbayani as he won in all 44 towns and three cities with enormous margins.

Per records of the Provincial Board of Canvassers, Espino garnered 829,441 or 72.7 percent of the votes against his opponent’s 301,141 or 26.4 percent.

This is so far the biggest victory for the gubernatorial in the history of Pangasinan, where the Agbayani family ruled for many years.

“I am extremely humbled by the overwhelming that you have bestowed upon this public servant who promises to continue serving you with renewed vigor and determination to pursue our collective vision of Pangasinan as the best place to invest, work, live and raise a family, and our mission to make Pangasinan truly number one,” Espino said.

At the same time, he called on all candidates to set aside political differences and urged them “to move forward.”

“Let us leave behind the hurts and the ill-feelings brought about by this just concluded, but necessary, electoral exercise,” he said.

In parting, Espino said, “As I did during my first term, I will not disappoint you. There are more better things to come for you, for our province.”

The governor said he is happy about the election turnout because it has proven that the people now believe in performance.

Meanwhile, Calimlim clobbered Agbayani’s running-mate, former Vice Governor Oscar Lambino, by garnering 662,728 votes against the latter’s 386,554 votes.—LM
