Manay Gina asks PNP, PDEA: Clean up Binloc!
ALARMED by media reports that her own barangay, Bonuan Binloc, is among the hubs of illegal drug trade in Pangasinan, Fourth District Rep. Gina de Venecia called on both the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to undertake immediate and effective action on the matter.
De Venecia wrote separate letters dated September 17, 2012 to Senior Supt. Mariano Luis Verzosa, officer-in-charge of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPO), and Director Roybel Sanchez, PDEA director in Region 1 expressing her concern.
“I am writing to request immediate and concrete action against the prevalence of drug pushing activities at Barangay Bonuan Binloc… buying and selling of drugs are done in broad daylight,” De Venecia said in her letters citing media reports.
She noted that residents in the area have also complained that the barangay officials led by chairman Pedro Gonzales have not been acting decisively to protect the community from the clutches of drug pushers in Sitio Silungan.
The PDEA has tagged Dagupan serves as a transshipment point of illegal drugs filtering into different parts of northern Luzon and the barangay as a major outlet.
ARRESTS
Two weeks ago, two women drug couriers from Pasay City were caught by PDEA agents in Lucao, Dagupan City before they were able to deliver some 800 grams of shabu worth P500,000 to an unidentified bulk buyer.
On September17, two drug dealers arrested in Pozorrubio town in a buy-bust operation conducted by the police and PDEA claimed they come from Bonuan, Dagupan.
The two were identified by Chief Inspector Satur Idiong, chief of police of Pozorrubio, as Walter Jay Makinano and Leonardo Estras.
Makinano and Estras, who had both long been under surveillance, were reported to have been regularly delivering drugs to their still unidentified contacts in Pozorrubio.
Four more suspects from Dagupan City were arrested two months earlier in San Fernando, La Union in a similar drug buy-bust operations.
Three weeks ago, five persons — two of them from Pozorrubio and one from Manaoag — were caught by the police conducting a pot session in one house on Sitio Korea in Bonuan Binloc.
De Venecia vowed to follow up on her letter to the two senior enforcement officers on their progress.
