Lim: Robredo was my relative
WHAT do the revered late Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse M. Robredo and Dagupan City Mayor Benjamin S. Lim could possibly have in common?
According to the mayor, Robredo has Chinese roots and whose name in Mandarin is Lin Bingzhi.
This was confirmed by the Lim Family Association of the Philippines of which the mayor is a member. The group recognizes members of the extensive Lim clan in the country.
Lim, basking in possible relations with the well-respected politician who is known for his campaign for good governance and transparency, went to add, “The late Cabinet secretary’s grandfather, grandmother and father were pure Chinese, but his mother is a pure Filipina.”
“I also gathered that the secretary’s paternal father named Lim Pay Co was a Chinese immigrant who later adopted the Filipino name Juan Lim Robredo,” he said.
The mayor said he was able to confirm his possible blood relations with the Robredos of Naga City when the late DILG chief was venerated by the Lim Family Association being a Lim.
“My only regret was that I only learned these facts after his death,” the mayor lamented, saying “I have known him for many years now.”
Speaking during last Monday’s flag-raising ceremony which was highlighted by the presentation to the city government of the Seal of Good Housekeeping by the DILG, said, “Our city can do justice to Robredo’s exceptional government service by preserving with greater commitment his legacies and best practices.” (CIO)
