New PSU building up soon
LINGAYEN–A P50-million three-storey administration building will soon be built at the Pangasinan State University (PSU) main campus located here in the capital town using internally-sourced funding.
At the groundbreaking ceremony last Tuesday, PSU President Victoriano Estira said the building will house the administration offices including those of the university president and vice-presidents, and the first floor will be a commercial area where 18 stalls will be up for bidding to interested business entrepreneurs.
Estira said the project is intended to generate income for the school as well as provide as area where students, faculty and employees can eat, shop and relax.
“This site will soon be an economic area which will benefit the more than 7,000 students of the university and the adjacent high school with a population of 5,000,” he said.
Target completion date of the project is March or April 2013.
Estira also told the Philippine Information Agency that aside from food stalls, internet cafes and various stores, banking institutions like LandBank of the Philippines and the Philippine National Bank have expresses interest to put up ATM machines in the area.
Dr. Lydia Buduhan, vice- president for planning and research called the project a “dream come true.”
“PSU is one big school with a big population and people outside are earning from the school. Since one of the functions of the school is production, we might as well use our idle space to provide services and at the same time generate income for the university,” Buduhan said.
The project will later be replicated at PSU’s Urdaneta City campus, she added. (PIA-Pangasinan/VHS)
