Binmaley mayor asked to explain projects
CONCERNED citizens of Binmaley by three retired generals challenged Mayor Simplicio “Sammy” Rosario to shed light on reported anomalous town projects during his six-year term.
In a press conference, retired generals Manuel Casaclang, Rodolfo Diaz and Valerio Perez, himself a former Binmaley mayor, presented to the media the various issues and concerns against Mayor Rosario.
“All citizens of Binmaley have the right to know and to be informed about the actions of their town officials — more so with public work projects that need transparency and accountability,” Perez said.
According to Dr. Cecil Terrado, “in his six years as Binmaley mayor, there is no denying that Mayor Rosario has many projects but unfortunately most of these projects have been tainted with perceived graft due to overpricing including the overall state of the town coffers.”
Among the issues raised they raised against Mayor Rosario include actual amount of town loans to banks; the P14M unfinished gymnasium project funded by Senator Joker Arroyo; the reported P32M cost of the municipal building renovation; the P3M budget for two waiting sheds in front of the town hall; multiple annual allocation of the Material Recovery Facility fence in Brgy. Tombor; the P5M worth of medicines and P1M funds for Women’s Brigade from President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s social funds.
The retired generals said that even as private citizens now in their twilight years, they still see their pro-active actions against corrupt town officials as a patriotic duty to protect the present and future generations of Binmaleyans, majority of whom are still mired in poverty.
“We have served our country well and put our lives on the line for many years for the love of God, country and people, now we are all doing this for the love of Binmaley,” the three chorused.
Interviewed by media, Rosario brushed off the charges as politically motivated to discredit his administration.
