Manang Celia Lim gaining ground
Decries black prop by GDV camp
Fourth District Congressional bet Celia Lim has gained ground and might pull off a monumental upset in her one-on-one fight with Gina de Venecia, wife of former House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr.
A neophyte politician and wife of former Fourth District Representative and Dagupan City Mayor Benjie Lim, Manang Celia decried the black propaganda material waged by the GDV camp describing it as a “desperate attempt by a candidate who is having a hard time to connect with Pangasinenses” being a pure Bicolana who could not speak both the Pangasinan and Ilocano dialects.
In an open letter to respond to a black propaganda material circulated in the whole district last week, Manang Celia stressed the she and her husband Benjie have always prided themselves as Filipinos despite their Chinese ancestry and more patriotic enough to stay and do business in Pangasinan by providing jobs to 5,000 provincemates.
She also cited the major contributions of Chinese taipans like Lucio Tan, Henry Sy, Emilio Yap and John Gokongwei and the incumbent Dagupan Vice mayor (who incidentally is part of their team) who have proven themselves to have contributed meaningfully to the Philippine society and economy.
“This ethnic issue has always cropped up in all past elections that involved by my husband and I am not surprised that this is being used again to foment hatred and enmity among us Pangasinenses,” said Manang Celia.
Buoyed by her steady rise in the commissioned surveys backed up by the warm welcome and steady support of her true-blue kabaleyans in Dagupan, Mangaldan, San Fabian, San Jacinto and Manaoag, Manang Celia is confident of winning further the hearts and minds of her districtmates in the next 10 days going into May 10 elections.
She reiterated that she is running in this election to provide an alternative to the long established De Venecia foothold in the district, more so with a candidate whose affinity to Pangasinan is only by virtue of her marriage to the former Speaker.
Manang Celia is a registered nurse and a graduate of Santo Tomas University. She once served as professor at the University of Pangasinan, then as head nurse at the Irvington General Hospital in New Jersey and is at present serving as Chief Financial Officer of the Magic Group of Companies.
Having proven her managerial and executive skills as CFO in successfully steering the Magic Group of Companies in the last 26 years, Manang Celia said that her platform of government and legislative agenda will do well to push the real development of Central Pangasinan.
“Being a former teacher, a registered nurse, an OFW and now as corporate executive, my varied experiences and exposures will serve me well when elected as congresswoman to champion issues and concerns closer to my heart,” Manang Celia said.
Her platform of government is anchored on the acrostic CELIA which stands for Clean and Honest Governance, Education for All, Livelihood Opportunities for Everyone, Infrastructure Development for agri-aqua sectors and Accessible health care for all.
