Al Fernandez set to win again? That’s not news
By Al S. Mendoza
MY Buloy Al Fernandez is leading Benjie Lim by a mile?
That’s not news.
Al Fernandez has been the frontrunner from the very start and he should win again in the mayoralty race come May 10 – by landslide.
So, I repeat: Al Fernandez as a sure winner once more is not news.
What’s news is this: That Benjie Lim is giving Al Fernandez a semblance of a fight.
What? Benjie Lim continues to entertain thoughts he’d score an upset?
Omigosh!
If Benjie Lim thinks he will beat Al Fernandez, fine.
One needs to believe in himself to keep one’s sanity.
Be a Racuyal Forever and I won’t take it against you.
Racuyal had so much faith in his capacity to run the reins of government, the reason he kept running for president in the not-so-distant past.
Racuyal hasn’t lost his mind – only his will power when Father Time intervened.
Everybody has the right to believe in one’s self and Racuyal, like Jamby now, too, exhibited that trait with fiery determination.
Look, even JC delos Reyes believes he can beat Noynoy Aquino on May 10.
That’s guts – if not going nuts.
One can wallow in his own drunkennes for self-worth and the world will just watch in sweet gentleness.
After all, this is a free country, where one can freely indulge in sheer madness for as long as the indulger doesn’t harm anyone.
As the favorite saying goes, one is always entitled to his own opinion.
So, if Benjie Lim remains steadfast in his belief that he’d beat Al Fernandez on May 10, let him be.
No one runs on a platform of defeat. No one thinks of defeat once his platform is unfurled.
I do not exactly know what platform Benjie Lim has.
All I know is, he is running to avenge the defeat of his son in the mayoralty race of 2007.
Is it true that Benjie Lim’s son was badly beaten in 2007 that the son even lost in his own barangay?
As of last count, Benjie Lim had gotten the nod so far of only 4 of 31 barangay captains of Dagupan City.
The remaining 27 barangay captains are solidly behind Al Fernandez. Ask Dr. Boyet Austria Reyes, the handsome son of Atche Sophie.
As I was writing this, 2 of the 4 Benjie Lim backers were even set to throw their support behind Al Fernandez.
“With a sure 27 barangay captains behind Mayor Al, and a possible 29 out of the total 31 barangay captains behind him on May 10, what election are we talking about here?” said San Francisco-based Hermie Rivera, the only Filipino manager to produce two world boxing champions in Luisito “Lindol” Espinosa and Morris “The Best In The West” East. “For your Buloy Al, it’s all over but the shouting.”
I was also told, a day before I did this piece, that Benjie Lim was set to give up, to raise the white flag of surrender.
What for?
Nobody needs his surrender, whether now or on May 11.
A man destined to lose need not give up the ghost. He should fight up to the very end, or he’s nothing but a cry baby.
Hitler never surrendered. He just put a bullet in his head.
I have nothing against Benjie Lim.
I have forgiven him since that day he stood me up for dinner in a hotel in Singapore.
We make mistakes. We are not God.
We have to forgive or we won’t be forgiven.
So carry on, Benjie. To me, you will always be special.
Nobody has ever done what you’d done to me.
