Dagupan’s new police station inaugurated
THE new Dagupan Police station, inaugurated Thursday on the eve of the Bangus Festival’s opening, is touted as a symbol of the transformation of the city’s Philippine National Police (PNP) force.
“Today, we are seeing the new image of the PNP as exemplified by this new beautiful building,” said 4th District Rep. Jose de Venecia Jr. who helped fund the station’s construction.
Considered as the most modern of its kind outside Metro Manila, the site of the new police station on A. B. Fernandez West was decided on for its accessibility.
The new station, unlike the old one located at the secluded Perez Market, is now easily accessible from the city hall, the public market, the Catholic Church and the central business district of Dagupan.
It is also a stone’s throw away from the historic Home Economics building of the West Central Elementary School, which served as the first command post on Luzon soil of General Douglas MacArthur during the landing of the Allied Liberation Forces in Lingayen Gulf.
De Venecia, with wife Gina, joined the inauguration along with Police Director Luizo Ticman of the Directorate for Logistics, representing PNP Chief Directror General Jesus Verzosa, Police Regional Director Chief Superintendent Constante Azares Jr., Mayor Al Fernandez and Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez and Police Provincial Director Percival Barba.
The project was constructed through the joint cooperation of the PNP, which contributed the lion’s share of P13.5 million; De Venecia, P3 million; and the city government that donated the 2,000 square meter lot.
De Venecia was also instrumental in the construction of new police stations in the towns of Manaoag, Mangaldan, San Fabian and San Jacinto.—LM
