PhilHealth card-holders bemoan lack of hospitals

MANAOAG – The accreditation of more hospitals in the province with the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) for the benefit of PhilHealth cardholders is being sought.

Provincial Board Member Agerico John Rosario noted that although many indigents are holders of PhilHealth cards issued by their respective Local Government Units, still there are not many PhilHealth-accredited hospitals where they can go for treatment.

He said that even if more politicians sponsor the PhilHealth membership of indigents, it would be a useless effort if there are only a few PhilHealth accredited hospitals.

Rosario is drafting a resolution asking PhilHealth to accredit more hospitals and make these more accessible to PhilHealth members.

“Everybody knows that health care is not included in the family’s budget, that is why in case a family member gets sick, they draw their money from their savings or sell properties just to have medical treatment,” Rosario said. — APE
