ALIGUAS DAGUPAN 2010
Dagupan, second best performing city in Region I
DAGUPAN City has been ranked as the second performing city in Region 1 for year 2009 by the Regional Development Council (RDC).
Dagupan placed second to Vigan City in Ilocos Sur in terms of performance in the promotion of efficient, effective and transparent local government practices.
Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. said the award is a testament to the efforts and sacrifices of all city government officials and employees.
City Development and Planning Coordinator Romeo Rosario said the award is proof that Dagupan has overtaken many cities in Region 1 in performance standards.
Six other cities were evaluated based on their Local Government Performance System (LGPMS), including San Fernando (La Union), Candon (Ilocos Sur), Batac (Ilocos Norte) and the other Pangasinan cities of San Carlos, Urdaneta and Alaminos.
The LGPMS is a self-assessment, management and developmental support tool that aims to support the progress and development of local government units through the judicious use of their financial and human resources.–LM

New city police station inauguration set April 5
THE newly-built Dagupan City Police Station, considered the most modern police headquarters in the country to date, will be inaugurated on April 15.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Jesus Verzosa said the new Dagupan Police Station will be a showcase for future police stations across the country.
The inauguration has been set as part of the highlights of the Dagupan Bangus Festival.
City Mayor Al Fernandez Jr. said the city fortunate to have such a well-equipped station in a more accessible location.
The new police station is located on a 2,000 square meter city property on A. B. Fernandez Avenue West, formerly occupied by the Philippine National Red Cross chapter building and the old Pangasinan Teachers Memorial building.
Situated near the city’s central business district, it is easily accessible from the city’s farthest points through the Jose R. De Venecia Expressway Extension.
Verzosa , his wife Cynthia, and other top ranking police officers, along with Fourth District Congressman Jose de Venecia Jr. and his wife Gina, Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, members of the Dagupan City council and other officials and employees are expected to attend the occasion.
The project was financed from a P15 million fund contributed by the PNP and P4 million from De Venecia. The Dagupan City government’s counterpart is the lot.
Dagupan City Chief of Police Supt. Mariano Luis Verzosa said the city can expect more efficient and prompt police response when they move to the new police station.
Meanwhile, Mayor Fernandez said the old police station at the Perez Market will be handed over to another city department that will move out from the main city hall building.
The city mayor pledged vowed to provide new fixtures to replace those damaged in the last year’s flood while Rep. De Venecia pledged to provide more computers.
The Dagupan Police has 120 personnel to serve and protect 210,000 residents, a ratio way below the ideal ratio of one policeman for every 500 persons.
