Local cyclists in 2nd Noynoy bikefest
ELITE riders led by two tour champions and members of the national squad are expected to do battle against the country’s promising professional and amateur cyclists during the 2nd Oo na, Noynoy na bikefest on April 11.
Spearheaded by 2003 Tour Pilipinas king Arnel Quirimit of Pozorrubio and 2009 Padyak Pinoy titlist Joel Calderon of Guimba, Nueva Ecija, a total of 70 pedal-pushers all over the country will vie for the P132,000. in cash prizes at stake.
Beefing up the star-studded road battle are national team members Sherwin Carrera of San Fabian, Renato Sembrano of Mangaldan, Baler Ravina of Asingan, and Alfredo Asuncion of Guimba, Nueva Ecija who won the 1st Oo na, Noynoy na race held March 23 from Subic, Zambales to Dagupan, Pangasinan.
The second race will start in Tarlac City and wind up in Baguio City via the northern municipalities of the provinces of Tarlac and Nueva Ecija, eastern towns of Pangasinan and La Union, with an approximate distance of 225 kilometers.
“We have to continue what we had started and that is to develop our young athletes because we believe they are the hope of the nation, like what our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal once said,” said Jun Omar Ebdane, chairman of the Asahan Mo party-list, the sponsor of the race.
“This is just the beginning and we are very confident that our goal will be achieved,” he added.
Tarlac City Mayor Genaro “Aro” Mendoza will send off the contestants across the city hall while Baguio City Mayor Reinaldo Bautista will welcome the participants at the finish line and award the prizes.–JAGJr.
