TPLEX breaks ground
ROSALES—Construction of the 88-kilometer Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) is now underway at the first project site in Barangay Tumana here.
The P16.88 billion toll road, intended to enhance economic growth in the North Luzon Agribusiness Quadrangle (NLAQ), is being built through a Build-Operate-Transfer scheme by the Philippine Infrastructure Development Corporation (PIDC).
PIDC is a consortium of 10 local contractors led by DMCI, San Miguel Corporation, CM Pancho, RD Policarpio, EEI, JV Angeles, JE Manalo, New Kanlaon Construction, Rockford Development and DM Wenceslao.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who visited the project site on March 1, underscored the importance of this new highway in speeding up the transport of goods from the production areas of the north to the markets in other parts of Luzon.
Travel time for motorists will be cut by about two hours between Tarlac and La Union.
TPLEX will start at the endpoint of the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) in La Paz, Tarlac and end in Rosario, La Union. It will traverse the towns of Victoria, Gerona, Pura, Ramos, Anao, Paniqui and Moncada in Tarlac; Nampicuan and Cuyapo in Nueva Ecija; and Rosales, Urdaneta City and Pozorrubio in Pangasinan.
The expressway, targeted for completion in April 2012, will have two viaducts that will cross the Bued and Agno Rivers, eight interchanges, several roads and farm crossings, and tollway facilities.#
