FIRST STOP IN DAGUPAN

IN AN effort to instill patriotism and heroism among the Filipino youth, former President Fidel V. Ramos and former Defense Secretary Renato S. De Villa will go on a nationwide roadshow titled: “Pilipinas: The Story Behind the Glory” starting September 14 at the Lyceum Northwestern University in Dagupan City.

Next stop will be the Philippine Military Academy in Baguio City on September15.

The event will feature the showing of TAGALIGTAS, a one-hour documentary on the Philippine National Police’s Special Action Force (PNP-SAF), and the book tour of SILVER LININGS: 25 Years of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

TAGALIGTAS documents the beginning of SAF (Special Action Force) in the turbulent ‘80s and brings to light how they helped end the Marcos dictatorship in February 1986 with People Power; how they defended the Constitution in those tumultuous years of transition during President Cory Aquino’s term; how they combated terror and insurgency during the Ramos presidency; and, how they are extending the long arm of the law to this day. It was produced by Ramos and former Interior and Local Government Secretary Rafael Alunan III.

SILVER LININGS covers more than 50years of Philippine history, told from the points of view of key military and police officers involved in the 1986 EDSA Revolution, along with other notable personalities in the Armed Forces and the government.

The 500-page book presents the untold stories of EDSA, and valuable insights on how and why Philippine society is where it is today.

It is authored by Melandrew T. Velasco, a native of Dagupan City known as the family biographer of Fidel V. Ramos who has produced more than 12 books in association with the Ramos Peace and Development Foundation.

The Pilipinas Roadshow will be brought to other schools and universities in Cotabato City, General Santos and Davao in November; in Zamboanga, Cebu, Dumaguete, Bacolod and Bicol in January 2013; Tarlac, Pampanga and Metro Manila in February 2013 in time for the anniversary of the EDSA Revolution; and a U.S. Roadshow from June to July 2013 in time for the Philippine Independence Day and US Fil-Am Friendship Day.

The event is presented by Infinity Events and Activation Co. in cooperation with the Ramos Peace and Development Foundation, Media Touchstone Ventures, Inc., and former Secretary Alunan.
