Hotel, restaurant owners pledge fair labor practices
ALAMINOS CITY—Hotel and restaurant owners in western Pangasinan have pledged before the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to practice fair labor practices in their businesses.
Fifteen business owners signed last September 3 the Voluntary Code of Good Practices (VCGP) to formalize their commitment to establish a good labor-management relationship with their workers.
The signatories included seven business owners from this city, five from the town of Bolinao, two from Lingayen and one from Anda.
“VCGP is one way of maintaining harmonious relationship between labor and management. We do not like to have strikes, labor disputes,” said Lourdes M. Trasmonte, DOLE Undersecretary for Labor Standards and Social Protection.
Western Pangasinan attracts a large number of tourists with its beach destinations, including the Hundred Islands National Park in Alaminos, the Patar Beach in Bolinao, and the white sandy beaches of Anda.
According to the Industry Tripartite Council for Hotel and Restaurant Industry of Western Pangasinan, tourist arrival in the area rose from 54,404 in 2007 to 339,371 in 2010, spawning establishment of hotels and restaurants, which have become its major industry. (PIA-Pangasinan/ARF)
