IT’S not just going to be one big city party.

The Bangus Festival this year, as in the past two years, will continue to focus on livelihood development for local entrepreneurs and small-scale businessmen.

Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, three-time chair of the festival’s organizing committee, said the festival the main beneficiaries will be the city’s street vendors and jeepney and tricycle drivers.

“The Dagupan Bangus Festival is for the Dagupenos and it must be they who must get the most benefit from it,” said Fernandez in a briefing last February 8.

New events in this year’s event include the Rimat ti Amianan, an exhibit on the “one-town-one product” program in the Ilocos Region to be held at the CSI Stadia, and product exhibits from different municipalities on Jovellanos Street.

Other economic enterprise events include the Pigar-Pigar Festival, Bangus Rodeo, Cookfest, and Halo-halo Samalamig.

The vice mayor also announced that the Great Dagupan Sale, to be participated in by all commercial establishments in Dagupan, will again be held from April 16 to May 1.

The restaurant owners have also committed to join the Bangusan Street Party (along Jose R. de Venecia Expressway) on April 30 and the nightly Bangusan Food Strip (on Galvan Street).

The Bangusan Street Party, the closing highlight of the Bangus Festival, will feature more than 10 rock bands, led by mainstays Bamboo, Parokya ni Edgar and Pupil.

“We will have an improved flow of pedestrian traffic along the highway all night,” Fernandez said.

Other cultural events include the crowd-drawing Festivals of the North, Gilon-Gilon ed Dalan and Pista’y Dayat on May 1 where the ‘Bikini Open’, beach volleyball, mud wrestling and amateur boxing will be held.

At least 12 street dancing festival champions from Pangasinan and adjacent provinces have already registered to participate in the Festivals of the North where P500,000 in cash prizes are at stake.

The ‘Araw ng mga Bata’ will also be held, along with the Milo Sports Clinic as well as Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. Bowling Cup.

The Sangguniang Kabataan led by their federation president, Councilor Carlos Alipio Fernandez, is planning to hold their own party sponsored by The Bar.—LM
